Elkira Resort Motel, Alice Springs
The owner managers, Julie & Kel are renowned for their super friendly service and comfortable accommodation.
The motel has been completely renovated, and not only offers 4 Star services at a 3 Star price, we know you’ll love the outdoor bar & BBQ area as much as we did when we visited.
The Elkira Resort Motel is part of the Best Western Motel chain and is located right in the Alice Springs Central Business District.
We’ve had several relaxing evenings here with friends who’ve visited Alice Springs and stayed here, chatting over drinks and sharing travel stories on warm summer evenings.
The review on this page was written for us by friends who stayed here in early 2009 when visiting Alice Springs for a reunion.
We joined them there for dinner and drinks, and heard all about how fabulous the accommodation and hospitality was, so we’ve asked them to write a review.
If the Elkira sounds like the kind of unpretentious, down-to-Earth fun and friendly outback hospitality you’re looking for, then you can check the rates and book directly from the links on this page.
What Are the Rooms Like?
Our room at the Elkira Resort Motel was spacious and featured air conditioning, free wireless Internet access and a large plasma TV with Austar cable access.
(WARNING: you have to renew the free wifi at the front desk every hour you use it. This is a PAIN!)
As we visited as part of a reunion group, we had plenty of activities and socialising planned, and did not spend a great deal of time in our room, but we were pleased with the accommodation in Alice Springs.
There were four different room types to choose from. We stayed in a Queen Deluxe Room which featured a queen bed and a single bed, a toaster, tea and coffee maker, hair dryer, en suite bathroom, and flat screen television. This was the lowest priced room available.
Other room types at the Elkira Resort Motel include the King Deluxe, the King Spa, and the Executive King Suite. The upgraded rooms feature larger televisions, refrigerators, bath and shower combos, two-person spas, and additional floor space.
Maybe the bathroom could in our room have done with an upgrade as the colours were a bit tired. However, it was very clean and that is all we were really worried about.
What Are the Facilities Like?
You can book tours to Ayers Rock, the Olgas, Kings Canyon, and the West MacDonnell Ranges. We took a trip out thought the West MacDonnells one day, but as we had our own mini bus and tours organised already, we didn’t need to book a tour.
The outside bar and BBQ area were great. In fact, they were our favourite parts of the motel.
The area is very leafy and was a cool refuge from the heat, as it was March when we visited and still very hot in Alice Springs.
We were really glad to relax in a cool, shady area after we’d spent the day out sightseeing. As we were here for a reunion, most of our group spent their evenings here.
This is where we met up with Gary and Amanda on our first night in Alice Springs.
The first night we arrived, Kel and Julie put on a great dinner for us in this outside area. I have to say they really spoiled us Vets with their hospitality.
During our second night at the Elkira Resort Motel, we dined at the Cycads Restaurant. It is best known for its home-style cooking, so though the menu is simple, we enjoyed the food.
There is also a good beer and wine menu, and we partook of plenty! The restaurant also serves breakfast and reportedly has some of the best hot chocolate in the area (it was too hot to try this when we were there).
Our two night stay at the Elkira Resort Motel gave us an opportunity to explore Alice Springs a bit more. We visited Old Stuart Gaol, John Flynn’s Memorial Church and Grave, the Alice Springs Telegraph Station and Anzac Hill.
We had been to the area before and passed up on the Olgas and Ayers Rock this time around, but the hotel offers easy access to all of the best area attractions. If location is a priority, this is a great option.

Our Overall Impression of the Elkira Resort Motel:
We would rather choose a location we know to be clean and reliable than risk being disappointed in a different, high-end hotel.
We would recommend the Elkira Resort Motel to business and leisure travellers, and to large groups – such as our own Vietnam veterans group.
Our group was so impressed, we want to come back again to Alice Springs for another reunion. We would be happy to stay at the motel a second time.
The motel was very clean and though it offered only basic amenities, it was still an ideal accommodation in Alice Springs because of its location. Coles Supermarket is only a couple of minutes walk away and KMart is right across the road.
As we’ve written already, the management and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and they joined us for dinner and drinks!
